Waxing your car is essential in order to prolong the paint of your vehicle. It sometimes even lessens the visibility of a small or narrow scratch. Here’s a simple way to wax your car:
First, clean your car to rid it of dirt and dust. It may look like it is dustless, but it isn’t. Dust is everywhere. Whether you just washed your car and drove to the convenience store for half an hour, it still accumulates dust. Clean your car of dust because it may add scratches as you wax. Wash with soap and water. Clean thoroughly and dry.
Second, wax your car in your garage or anywhere away from sunlight. The heat of the sun makes the wax dry too quickly, which becomes difficult to buff. It may also be difficult to remove. During cooler weather, wax becomes difficult to move around and immediately attaches itself to the car.
Third, avoid using abrasive wax. Car wax is different from car polish. Car wax is made up of different kind of waxes like vegetable or animal wax while car polish is made up of abrasive ingredients in order to remove fine layers of the top coat to flatten the surface. If in doubt, always use non-abrasive wax.
Fourth, use an electric buffer or if you don’t have one, use a sponge. In using an electric buffer, apply a generous amount of wax on the buffer pad. Spread evenly and gently pulse the trigger of the buffer — NOT continuously — on it. This way, the wax will not cake on the surface. Note that you should not wax your car entirely in one go. First wax the first half of your car and after removing the wax, start waxing the other half.
There are waxes which require more time before removing it. Do not leave your wax on for too long or it will dry onto your car and leave obvious marks. Check the package for instructions. Use a microfiber cloth in removing the wax. Use circular motions to achieve high gloss.
On the other hand, when using a sponge, it is similar with an electric buffer. The sponge usually comes with wax. Dampen the sponge and apply a generous amount of wax on it. Apply the wax on the car by rubbing using circular motions.
