Car Windshield Wipers

Vehicles are required to have protection against the rain on the windshield, so they have wipers. A car windshield wiper removes or wipes away solid and liquid debris from the windshield. It was invented by Mary Anderson in 1903 and she called it “window cleaning device” meant to clean the windscreen of early electric cars.

A car windshield wiper has an arm rotating at one end and an extended rubberized blade on the other side. The bladed part moves back and forth from right to left of the windscreen wiping away liquid from the glass. It has different settings that would control the speed of the movement of the blades. Some cars operate on two aligned radial kind of arms while some vehicles use more pantograph arms.

There are several kinds of windshield wipers: the conventional frame type, winter wiper and the premium beam type wiper. The conventional frame type wiper, which is the most commonly used, is joined by a metal encasement and functions as a base for the real wiper which is rubberized. This is the most practical and economical type of windshield wiper so most car owners choose this over the others. The winter wiper is an upgraded one that functions as protection during bad weather using a conventional blade enclosed in a restrictive rubber husk. This wiper prevents the storage of ice and snow which makes it longer-lasting. It may not be appealing but it serves its purpose. The premium-beam wiper is the most expensive type and goes well with car owners who want to enjoy long-lasting windshield wiper operation. An enclosed spring-steel ring lets the wiper adjust to the curves of the windshield.

Once you notice that your car windshield wiper is not functioning anymore, then it’s time to switch to a new one. Choosing a new wiper is easy just as long as you don’t consider the price only. Some people choose the cheapest one to get more savings but what they don’t know is that they are compromising the clearness of the windshield, especially during bad weather. Make a practical choice by choosing a wiper that will serve its purpose even if the price is higher than the usual ones.

When replacing a windshield wiper, ask the help of the people in the store where you bought it. This is more practical than replacing it yourself which is quite complicated. You will also need tools for the work which can be provided by the shop. Watch the person at work so you will learn and you can do it yourself the next time you purchase one again.

Cars, like humans, need pampering also, so pamper them with a windshield wiper that will really do its job of clearing your windshield during bad weather.
