Chang Oil- Meyers Auto Parts
One of the most important things you can do to keep your car at its best condition is to regularly change its oil and filter. If left unchanged, the oil will break down and clog the filter with contaminants. You can change oil every three months or 3,000 miles or as long as 24 months or 20,000 miles. To be sure about the service intervals, consult your car owner’s manual. In addition, you will find out it is inexpensive and easy.

5 Steps in Changing Oil

Step 1: Jack Up the Vehicle
Place the car on a level ground and make the oil warm for 5 to 10 minutes. Then park the car, detach the keys, and apply the parking brake. Get out of the car and restrain the tires using chalk or blocks. Jack up the car on one side, and then make sure that the car is stable. Put the recovery pan under the engine and wait until the engine has cooled down.

Step 2: Drain the Oil
Get the new oil and the proper filter ready. Open the hood and look for the oil cap on top of the engine and take off the oil cap. Look under the car for the engine drain plug and remove the oil plug. Let the oil drain out and put back the plug. Clean the whole area, especially the plug, drain, and gasket.

Step 3: Replace the Oil Filter
Look for the filter. Depending on the model, it can be found at the back, front, or side of the engine. Make sure that the drain pan is positioned below the filter so that used oil will not spill out. Then, remove the filter and replace it with a new one. Be sure to tighten it up.

Step 4: Add New Oil

Go back to the fill hole on top of the engine and pour in the correct new oil, holding the bottle with the spout on top. Then, measure oil based on the car manual’s directions. Put back the fill cap and see to it that no tools are left before closing the hood. Check under the car for any leaks. Start the car’s engine to pressure up and to see if you have installed everything properly and if the levels of oil are correct.

Step 5: Dispose of Used Oil

Put the used oil in clean containers and mark them. Keep your filters too because they can be recycled. There are some retailers that refine motor oil which can be recycled and are cheaper than new oil.
