![]() You must be ready for the cold weather already: winter coats, warm blankets, holiday food, and hot chocolates. But you and your family should not be the only ones ready for the big chill; your car should also be prepared for what’s coming. Here are top 6 winter car maintenance tips for your car to survive the winter season: 1. Replace your battery and tires
Navigating through an icy road can put more stress to your car’s battery. Some nights in winter can be dark and it will be harder to find people to ask for help when your battery dies. Save yourself from that situation by replacing your old battery and maintaining it. Consider checking your tires as well and replace them with new ones for a safer car trip up to the snowy mountains. The last thing you want to experience is to have your car whirling out of control due to worn-out tires. 2. Get your brakes checked In the winter season, your car’s brake system will be your best friend. Whether you see yourself driving and slipping through ice, or suddenly a man popping out of the winter breeze, braking should be there to always save your life or somebody else’s life. Get your brakes checked often to avoid having problems in the future. “How to Change Brake Pads on Cars” 3. Maintain your car’s lights Check if your lights are still properly working. If they are, do an extra step and wax all your car’s lights for more luminous light in the gloomy winter night. Some lights in the streets might be covered with ice and your car’s bright headlights will save you from wandering in the dark. “How to Wax Your Car” 4. Check your car’s heater The last thing you want to have is a freezing day inside your car. The heater will also help the ice from sticking into your car while driving. 5. Always clear the windows If your car is covered with frost and snow, not seeing through your window can jeopardize your life. You might think that using your wipers immediately, but it’s not the best and most suggested idea. Using your car’s wipers to remove the ice can be difficult and it can also break your wipers. Instead, use an ice scraper to effectively eliminate the frost and ice on your windshield. Also, raise your wipers when your car is already parked to avoid the wipers from freezing onto the windshield. 6. Consider using winter wiper blades For a more effective performance from your wipers, it is suggested to replace your wipers every six months. Also, consider purchasing winter wiper blades, so they could be more operational and functional during the winter season. The road conditions are very bad in winters so driving in winters is not easy. Always prepare your car before driving in winters. This post is really nice . By following these tips we can prepare ourself for winter driving. You should always have an emergency kit handy. You should also invest in winter car tires because winter tires tend to be harder and offer better traction on slick roads.

You should need to have a volt test performed on your battery before winter starts to make sure it's still in good working order because it is very difficult for a battery to operate in cold weather. If your battery condition is not good then you can replace it.

I am felling glad after uncovering such a useful blog. In fact I liked all the winter car maintenance tips that you had shared here. Especially if you leave in a place that gets lots of snow and blow freezing temperature, then it is very essential that you prepare your car for winter driving. Though it is important to service the car through out the year, but doing so before winter is absolutely a great preventive maintenance practice. As breakdowns are more common in winter months, hence, we should take the help of an expert for preparing our car for winter months.

Thank you for sharing such an informative post with us. Cars should be taken care off at a regular interval in order to increase the lifespan of your vehicle. winter affects the vehicles most than any other season. Battery is mostly affected due to the extreme cold weather and should be properly maintained. If it is two to three year old and showing problems then it should be repair or replaced. And different type fluid present in your car should be checked and should be replaced if needed. As tire pressure fluctuates according to the surrounding temperature, tire pressure and tire tread depth should be checked at a regular interval. And if possible use winter tire as they can produce more traction than that of ordinary tire on snowy surfaces.

You have posted a very good article on your website about the maintenance of cars. I never took seriously the maintenance of my car's tire. I have had an accident during previous winter. As the tread depth is very less to create any friction, so I couldn't control my car and had an accident. I didn't replace my tire during the winter, I even didn't have any idea about my tire's tread depth, and hence I got an accident, and gain a very bad experience. So just replace your overused tires with the new one. It would be good if you use a winter tire, as they produce more traction on the snowy surface than that of ordinary tires.
