More people prefer to do home vehicle repair rather than bringing their cars to auto repair shops. Do-it-yourself car repair is more economical, especially if the damage will not really require a major overhaul. But in order to do a successful DIY home vehicle repair, you need to have the right tools and equipments. Having a startup kit of auto repair tools in your car or in your garage is necessary if you are serious about doing your own car maintenance work.

Here is a list of basic auto repair tools that you will need to keep handy in your toolbox.

1. A set of wrenches

Hand or lug wrenches are the most basic car tools that you need to have in your toolbox, since you will need one to loosen and/or tighten the nuts in your wheels. It is better to get a set of combination of wrenches that can handle different kinds of nuts and bolts that you can find in your car. Ideally, the sizes range from 10 mm to 18 mm. Always buy wrenches in a set instead of individually so you can save on money.

2. Screwdrivers

Like lug wrenches, a set of screwdrivers will always come in handy when it comes to DIY car repair. Having a variety of kinds and sizes in your tool kit will be useful when working on your vehicle. You can use screwdrivers to fix loose screws and jammed locks and even jump-start your car.

3. Ratchets and socket sets

Socket sets and ratchets are two of the most important tools to invest for serious car repair DIYers. This is because these two tools give more flexibility when it comes to repair work. Ratchets can fit into any socket and can go a long way in your DIY repairs.

4. Pliers

Pliers are usually used for snipping small wires in your car. Having a needle-nose one and a diagonal cutter in your tool kit is a must but you will need to have more variety if you are serious about DIY car repair.

5. Hammers and Files

Hammers and files are handy when you need to straighten out bents and other out-of-place pieces in your car. Keeping a ball-peen hammer and a file handle in your tool kit will enable you to do general auto repairs on your own.

You can always grow your repertoire of auto repair tools if you are really serious about DIY home vehicle repair. However, the most important thing to remember is to determine the usual repair job that you encounter so you can invest in the proper tools.

Well, it is absolutely true that anything can happen to the car at any given point of time. Thus, as a car owner, he must be prepared to tackle the situation in case of an emergency. I can also tell that even with minimum mechanical knowledge, a lot of unexpected issues can be handled by a car owner, only if he has the right tools with him. Thus, he has to understand the importance of keeping car care tools in his car because these are the one which will help him in resolving the problematic situation especially in an area where there will be no mechanic around him. Thank you.
