Summer is here, and everyone’s looking to shape up, hit the road, and play at the beach. A bottle of sunscreen, sunglasses, and a big umbrella are essential to protect your skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun, but do you know that the sun could prove to be just as harmful to your car?
Being exposed to the extreme heat can affect and damage your car’s interior, rot your tires, burn out the battery, and many more. The next time you decide to go on a road trip, consider and asses the condition of your car. You wouldn’t want to be walking home in the heat, do you?
1. Regularly check on your vehicle’s fluid levels. Every time you plan to go for a long ride, check your car’s coolant and transmission fluid as the heat can make it evaporate much faster, increasing the possibility of damage.
2. Think before you park. If you are going to spend the whole afternoon out in the mall to sneak away from the heat, then give your car a break as well. Choose a parking spot under a big tree, or any place where you know your car can stay cool.
3. If you can’t find a shaded parking spot, then get ready to pull out those sun shades. It may be a pain to fold and unfold all throughout the summer, but it may be an even bigger pain to come back and sit in a car that could burn your skin.
4. Check the battery and the tires of your car often. During the summer and winter, those batteries work harder than ever, with the air conditioner and the heater on. The tires can wear and tear even faster because of the hot roads.
5.Wash and wax your car often. The exterior paint of your car can expand due to the high temperatures and ultimately crack. Wash and hand dry your car to make sure the dust and the dirt don’t stick to the paint. Finish off the job with some protective wax, just like sunscreen on the skin. Maintain your car’s look and watch it age nicely.
